The Hobbit, An Unexpected Party

Happy Hobbit Day, everyone! For those of you who don't know, today we celebrate one of the bravest Hobbits who ever walked this earth and the incredible author who acquainted us with him.

I was at a friend's birthday party on the last day of august and rambling about the new pointy ears I bought when a fellow writer told me I could use them at Bilbo's birthday party that was due two weeks later near a small village called Bucchianico. So we went, and it was charming. The event was organised by "The Beornings" society, and if you happen to be visiting Abbruzzo (Italy) during September next year, I definitely recommend you check them out.

The beautiful scenery in the middle of the countryside was enriched by the peaceful Shire melodies, the air filled with the scent of mint that grew wild everywhere. Smiling Hobbits were busy making everything ready for the party: decorating tables, arranging the bonfire, singing and playing pipes and violins, and doing dance rehearsals.
We were sorted into Families, and my sister and I both happened to be Took. I take that as a sign that adventure lies on our path, and I'm not an inch disappointed. Everything was lovely, from the stalls full of handmade items to the little wooden Hobbit house. Children were always around the horse and goat that pastured on one side and, near the riverbank, there was Smaug's cave.

Unfortunately, we couldn't stay for dinner cause reservations were already closed when we found out, but that would have been an exquisite experience, not only for food. Most of the festival activities revolved around and after the feast, such as live music, dance circles around the fire, and late-night storytelling.
Bilbo Baggins himself anticipated me that there's already a project for building a real Hobbit house, ninety per cent true to the one in the movies (due to the land structure) and that it's going to become a bed and breakfast. Other little wooden houses are going to be built too for those who want to camp for the night, so I can't wait for next year party!

Tell me in the comments if you're going to celebrate and what kind of activities you've planned, whether it's a party with friends, a reread of The Hobbit or a movie marathon.

Till next time, have a lovely week!
